Who is Marjan Brouwers?
As most of you probably know, Marjan Brouwers will come to Flanor to tell something about her poetic work. Marjan Brouwers is the author of Leegland, but there is a lot more to her than that. The board decided to do some online research and give you a summary of what we’ve found, so you already know a few things about her for the lecture tonight!
Brouwers lives in Groningen! She studied English in Groningen and then proceeded to work in Den Haag and Amsterdam to eventually come back to Groningen. In 2000, Brouwers started her own company, text agency Bureau Brouwers. For the company, Brouwers writes texts in both Dutch and English for different industries: from healthcare to finances and education.
In 2016, Brouwers published a book together with Jeannette van Ditzhuijzen. This is the biographical novel Ren, Janina, ren!. After that, in 2018, Brouwers released another book about the history of the Hanzehogeschool called Van Meester tot Master. Her most recent release is Leegland, a dystopian novel about life after the corona crisis in The Netherlands, with an even worse virus and climate wars.
We hope we have informed you enough about Marjan Brouwers, so you can already know a few things about her for the lecture tonight. It is not required to have read Brouwers’s books before the lecture. You can just come and listen. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn a few things and want to read her books afterwards! The lecture starts at 20:00 and will take place in Wonderland in the Forum. There is the possibility to buy her books after the lecture. You can still sign up on the website. Hope to see you there!
Love,
the Board
