Who is Joost Oomen?
As most of you probably know, Joost Oomen will come to Flanor to tell something about his work. Joost Oomen is the author of Visjes, which is his newest work, but there is a lot more to him than that. The board decided to do some online research and give you a summary of what we’ve found, so you already know a few things about him for the interview tonight!
A quick wikipedia search told us that, just like Laura van Meijeren, Joost Oomen was the house poet of the University in Groningen from 2010 - 2011. At the time, he was 19 and in his third year of studying Dutch. Back then he named the “vijftigers” as his source of inspiration, naming specifically Lucebert, Campert and Simon Vinkenoog.
And just like Myron Hamming, Oomen was also the city poet of Groningen! This was back in 2013 - 2014. Before that he had already released a poetry collection called Vliegenierswonden. Other things he has done was organizing the poetry festival Dichters in de Prinsentuin and in 2021 a Dutch newspaper, De Volkskrant, named him literary talent of the year 2021. In 2020, Oomen released his book, Het Perenlied, which is very loved by our Board and just a few months ago he released Visjes. If this still does not sound familiar to you, Joost Oomen also participated in a Dutch TV program called De Slimste Mens, in which he came third. This was in 2021.
We hope we have informed you enough about Joost Oomen, so you can already know a few things about him for the interview tonight. The interview starts at 20:00 and will take place at Wonderland in Het Forum. You can still sign up on the website. Hope to see you there!
Love,
the Board
