This Friday, February 25th, is Flanor’s birthday! This year, we’re turning 36. Even though we have planned a beautiful lustrum week in March with lots of activities to celebrate Flanor’s birthday, including a gala, we cannot let our birthday go unmentioned. That is why the board has decided it is time for some cake! Friday, February 25th, we will be at the Graanrepubliek and bring cookies&cake. You are very welcome to join us and bring your own baked goods so that we can celebrate Flanor’s birthday with lots of awesome nomnoms.

To get you all in the spirit of baking, the board has decided to share our favourite baked loveliness. Even though you can always make us happy with cake, pie, cookies or tarts, there are a few baked goods that will always be our favourite. For Jessay, a classic pie will always be a good choice. His favourite is an apple crumble pie. Whether this is because Jessay likes classic foods or is a fan of Adventure Time - it doesn’t matter. As long as he can eat this pie, Jessay is in one of his happy places. Iris has a surprising choice: born and raised in Assen (and always stating Drenthe is the best), she has to go to the southern part of the Netherlands in order to get her favourite treat: a bossche bollen vlaai. Kato’s favourite has, by far, the best name in English as it is called a ‘hedgehog slice’ (Dutch: arretjescake). Even though it sounds rather gruesome, I had never expected this to be the name and that is what makes it amazing for me. (Also, please note that is a myth to feed hedgehogs milk. Don’t do that, they are lactose intolerant and can get very ill if you feed them milk!) As for my favourite sweet treat… Oof. It’s a very hard choice! I love to bake cakes, pies, tarts, cookies and everything else and each time I discover new sweet treats that are amazing and very tasty. I’m never able to choose and my choice regularly changes. At the moment, I think my favourite would be a lemon cheesecake with homemade lemon curd on top. I made this cake for my birthday last year and I still think about it sometimes because I liked it so much.

I hope we have inspired you to join us this Friday with your own favourite noms, we are looking forward to it!

Love, Merel
